Hello, my name is Max Burns-McRuvie director of Journey Walks.
Launched in 2017 with co-founder Jocelyn Gulliver, Journey Walks is a small, independent collective of historians, storytellers and guides who bring Australia’s fascinating heritage and true crime history to life through tours and events. As a young and vibrant team of professional hosts we are proud to represent the future of Sydney’s tourism and events industry. We strive to offer truly engaging experiences that are carefully crafted through extensive research and our passion for the past.
Over the last 5 years Journey Walks has gained extensive experience curating tours and events for public, private, corporate and educational groups. We are closely partnered with a great range of historic venues, and regularly host unique history, food and wine experiences with Sydney Restaurant Group. We also collaborate with the Historic Houses Association, the National Trust, Sydney University, the City of Sydney Council and many local businesses, bars, cafes, restaurants, hotels and cultural institutions.
While the ongoing Covid situation presents many challenges for small businesses such as Journey Walks, we are proud to be a strong and dynamic team that continues to face these challenges with resilience and creativity — as we do our part to help restore Sydney’s vibrant culture, entertainment and travel industry.
In 2022 we are excited to launch several new tours and experiences, and relaunch other products that have been on hold since early 2020.
Make sure to look out for:
- ONCE UPON A CRIME IN PADDINGTON: a twisted true crime history tour.
- KINGS CROSS GOLDEN AGE: refreshed and relaunched experience.
- THE GANGS OF RAZORHURST: unique underworld adventure .
- MURDERS ON THE ROCKS: deadly crime stories by twilight.
Plus the launch of several new event series:
- COLD ALES AND CRIME TALES: at the Australian Hotel, The Rocks
- COCKTAILS AND CRIME STORIES: at SILY Bar, Kent Street CBD
- STORIES FROM THE CELLS: at Sergeant Lok restaurant in the old Police Station of The Rocks
No matter the occasion, our primary occupation is the forging of real connections between contemporary audiences and historic stories.
We can’t wait for you to join us as we explore the fascinating tales, trails and tastes that are woven throughout the wonderful city of Sydney.
